Airport projects are not a departure for us, as is evidenced by our work on the 762,000 SF Midfield Terminal Complex. It contains 28 aircraft gates along three concourses and is comprised of two levels the length of three football fields. Included were baggage claim facilities, ticketing areas, three security clearance areas, restaurants and shops. Natural light floods the ticketing hall, and gardens of native vegetation and lush tropical foliage flank six entrance vestibules on each level. To address security and structural requirements, the terminal’s curtain wall system is both blast-resistant and hurricane-proof. The design also allows for the eventual addition of 65 aircraft gates and two new concourses. Included in the contract was construction of a remote chiller plant.
