NAME: PNC Park
LOCATION: Pittsburgh, PA
OWNER: Pittsburgh Pirates
As part of a joint venture, served as design-builder at risk for PNC Park. Work on this 1,000,000 sf project began in early April 1999. The ballpark, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, was completed and ready for opening day for the 2001 baseball season. Part of the park's charm is the unobstructed view of Pittsburgh's skyline. PNC Park's design complements its surroundings, namely the many bridges along Pittsburgh’s famed Golden Triangle in the downtown area. In mirroring the bridges, steel arches are a focal point of the stadium's exterior.
With a seating capacity of approximately 38,000, part of the park’s unique design is the fact that seats are closer to the playing field than in any other major league ballpark. It also is the only ballpark where the luxury seating is hung from the bottom of the upper deck.
This project was the recipient of the following awards: 2002 - Building Excellence Award (Design-Build), Master Builders’ Association of W. PA; 2002 - Commercial Project of the Year, Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP); 2001 - W. PA Golden Trowel Award for “Stone” projects, The International Masonry Institute, Masonry Contractors Associate of W. PA; and 2001 - Voluntary Protection Program Merit Award.
