Wayne County Consolidated Jail Facility Awarded to Walbridge-dck
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – September 8, 2011 – Walbridge-dck Joint Venture has been awarded a contract to build the new $220 million Wayne County Consolidated Jail Facility in Detroit. The facility will combine three existing jails into a single, centralized detention facility that will be more economical and efficient than the current arrangement.
Walbridge, a top-50 construction company founded in Detroit in 1916 and headquartered in the city, has partnered with dck worldwide, a global construction company based in Pittsburgh that specializes in federal and corrections facilities.
The new 700,000-square-foot jail will be constructed on a 7.2-acre site in downtown Detroit. Pre-construction on the 2,192-bed facility is scheduled to begin immediately, with construction set to begin by the end of 2011 and completion scheduled for June 2014. The project is a partnership between the Wayne County Commission, Wayne County Executive’s Office, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The architect for the project is AECOM/Ghafari, and the owner’s representative is Parlovecchio Building, Inc.
