This 200,000 SF plant treats steel coils ranging in widths from 24 to 60 inches. The Indiana construction project is divided into two main areas, the coil storage bay and the process bay. Steel entering the process is uncoiled, cleaned, and heated before being dipped into a pot containing molten zinc. After moving through another cleaning stage, the steel is recoiled and stored for shipment. Three, 35-ton overhead cranes are in the storage bay. One 15-ton overhead crane is used for furnace maintenance, and one 10-ton overhead crane is used for the zinc pot. Installation consisted of a 6,800-cubic-yard concrete floor slab, 1,600-cubic-yards of concrete equipment foundations, and a 10,400 sf office/locker building. After reaching substantial completion of the new GalvPro steel treatment facility one week ahead of schedule, dck worldwide employees spent the next six months participating in performance testing, working closely with the owner and equipment manufacturers to ensure various sizes and types of coils could be processed successfully on a continual basis.
