dck worldwide and joint venture partner, Layton Construction, performed pre-construction services for Kapiolani Medical Center’s new 193,000-square-foot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (NICU-PICU). The first phase “make ready” package of the medical center construction was accomplished by dck worldwide over a period of nine months and included underground utility relocation, demolition of an existing six-level parking garage, and preparing pedestrian walkways. dck worldwide began construction of the five-story, 193,000-gross-square-foot NICU-PICU building in February 2014. The new state-of-the-art medical center will include a NICU with seventy beds, PICU with fourteen beds, and twelve med-surge beds. Meeting rooms will be used primarily for education and training, and clinic support services. Shell spaces for future emergency, radiology, and clinics are also part of the new facility.
