We were the design-build contractor for this new Kentucky construction project -- the state-of-the-art, 427,000 SF correctional facility. The team of CMW and DMJM designed the facility to resemble one of the barns typical of the area that are used to house thoroughbred horses. Below-grade housing was used to help screen the majority of the prison complex from the highway. (The roof and cupola of the administration area is the only part visible from the adjacent roadway.) The administration building consisted of a 750-ton steel frame, 100,000 SF of floor deck and 28,000 SF of roof deck. A steep gable roof frame with dormers, skylights and an 18’ x 18’ hexagonal cupola in the center of the roof was also constructed to give the facility the barn-like exterior. The housing area consists of dorms and cells arranged in two semicircles. Learn more about our Justice Solutions and other correctional facility projects.

" While the project was imminently successful for the County - $8M under budget, 3 months ahead of schedule, what truly made the project a positive experience for all was the openness of the process and the mutual respect that all players brought to the table due in large part to your leadership as constructor.
