Airport projects are not a departure for us, as is evidenced by our work on the 762,000-square-foot Midfield Terminal Complex. This South Florida construction project contains 28 aircraft gates along three concourses and is comprised of two levels the length of three football fields. Included were baggage claim facilities, ticketing areas, three security clearance areas, restaurants and shops. Natural light floods the ticketing hall, and gardens of native vegetation and lush tropical foliage flank six entrance vestibules on each level. To address security and structural requirements, the terminal’s curtain wall system is both blast-resistant and hurricane-proof. The design also allows for the eventual addition of sixty-five aircraft gates and two new concourses. A remote chiller plant was also included in the contract. " “Our Terminal complex project was unique in that it was 100% designed when construction started August, 2001. With impacts caused by 9/11, we were forced to do extensive redesign, expansion for in-line baggage screening and testing to meet TSA mandates. The changes to the project would not have been accomplished without the dedication and cooperation of the dck team.” "
