The major expansion to the largest university in Puerto Rico is a textbook demonstration of university construction methods. The university's largest structure is the 386,000 square-foot institutional building constructed of cast-in-place post-tension concrete.  The structure contains three levels of retail space and three seven-story towers housing classrooms and administrative offices.  The three ‘T’-shaped, six-story dormitory buildings, totaling 211,000 square-feet, are of cast-in-place reinforced concrete using a Tunnel Form system.  Lastly, the 360 vehicle parking garage is of pre-stressed, precast concrete.  Construction took place within a three-block area in the middle of the busy city.  Site improvements included four plazas, an amphitheater, and a pedestrian walkway.  Cast stone planters, walls, and benches adorn the concrete paver lined area.
